2012 is the SUNBEAM MOTORCYCLE CENTENARY. There is a regular calendar of events throughout the season worth attending if you want to take your 'Beam out for a run and to meet fellow 'Beamers in this the marque's 100th year. The list below includes the key annual events in 2012 for veteran and vintage motorcycles, some of which may have special plans for the Sunbeam for the centenary. You will be likely to find a good number of Sunbeams out and about. Should you want to participate with your machine, for most events this requires contacting the organiser. 2012 SATURDAY 10 - SUNDAY 11 MARCH The Marston Sunbeam Club & Register will be present at the largest classic bike show in Scotland. Visit Chris Odling's stand in the Carole Nash Classics Pavilion. See some great Sunbeams, have a chat or sign up for club membership. See: www.scottishmotorcycleshow.com
SUNDAY 18 MARCH The Pioneer Run from London to Brighton. Organised by the all-make Sunbeam MCC for veteran (pre-1915) machines. There are usually a number of early Sunbeams present, including an opportunity to see the v-twin machines.
SUNDAY 22 APRIL The Horsepower Run is the continental equivalent of the UK's Pioneer Run but includes an additional class to cover machines of 1915-1920. A 50 mile run staring and ending at Leek, near Groningen, and taking in Assen en route. There are usually Sunbeams to be seen, including military models from the Great War. See: www.horsepowerrun.nl
SATURDAY 28 - SUNDAY 29 APRIL The Marston Sunbeam Club & Register will be present at the Stafford Classic Bike Show as usual, with a display of fine 'Beams. Come along to have a chat or to sign up for membership of the club.
SATURDAY 19 MAY After their 'runners up' award for best club stand at their first appearance last year, the Marston Sunbeam Club & Register will be present at the Southern Classic Bike Show this year. Call by to see Vic Youel and the team, and chat about all things Sunbeam, or to sign up for membership of the club. See: http://www.egp-enterprises.co.uk
SUNDAY 17 JUNE The Vintage Motor Cycle Club's annual run for pre-1931 motorcycles - some 600 of them! If you are not entered for the event its a great chance to spot almost every model of Sunbeam made prior to the event's cut-off date of 1930.
FRIDAY 29 JUNE - SUNDAY 1
JULY The Classic British Bike Club (CBBC) of Germany's Treffen in Frankenland will be celebrating the Sunbeam's centenary. The club is the largest in Germany for British bikes and their owners. The event will be based in and around the small village of Zettmannsdorf near. Sunbeams welcome. Contact the The Classic British Bike Club, Germany for details.
SUNDAY 29 JULY The Festival of Black Country Vehicles at the Black Country Living Museum provides an opportunity to see historic vehicles made in the Black Country in action. This year the museum will be celebrating the Sunbeam Motorcycle Centenary. SATURDAY 11 - SUNDAY 12
AUGUST The Marston Sunbeam Club & Register's two-day event in Wolverhampton to celebrate the Sunbeam Motorcycle Centenary. It will be based at the Wolverhampton Rugby Club (with facilities for camper vans and camping), and a Friday night social evening will be arranged for early arrivals. All owners are invited, with or without machines. The Saturday will include a concours event, awards and commemorative badges, club AGM and social dinner with special guest speakers. On Sunday there will a return to the iconic Sunbeamland factory for a special centenary photo call, followed by rides to take in some of the original testers' routes. SUNDAY 19 AUGUST The Oude Klepper Parade for pre-1921 machines is based in the Belgian seaside town of De Haan. It includes a 75 km run in the Flanders countryside. Period costume adds a distinct charm to this continental veteran and vintage event. Sunbeams may be amongst the entrants, and presumably welcomed by the organisers.
